Updated: Jan 10
This Ordinary Council Meeting was only for the swearing in of our new Councillors, as well as the election of the mayor, deputy mayor and Management Committee.
Nothing much will happen officially until after the next Ordinary Council Meeting, originally scheduled for 26 January 2026. However, due to the Councillors Induction scheduled for that week, a new date has yet to be set.
The Councillors kept themselves busy over the holiday break, taking a ride through town and attending a beach clean-up hosted by Na'ankuse.
Below is a short breakdown of what this means for Walvis Bay residents.

Key Decisions at a Glance
Moving Ahead: | No motions were passed or project updates given. |
|---|---|
Delayed: | The next Council Meeting (January) had to be postponed due to the Councillor Induction Week. New date to be confirmed. |
Needs Follow-Up: | All relevant motions the JWBRA submitted previously, especially the Performance Management System, Clock-In System and the Kuisebmond Hall. |
What This Means for Residents
It means that nothing big is going to happen in the next few weeks. That's fair, seeing as the new Councillors need to follow protocol to settle in and get going.
Our Councillor's View
JWBRA Councillor, Sharon Roodt, says she's quite positive as all Councillors (5 SWAPO, 3 IPC, 1 AR and 1 JWBRA) seem to be on the same page: No more business as usual, no more politics and no more slacking off. It remains to be seen if this Council has the teeth to make good on their promises.
However, the activities done over December - clean-ups, town inspections and such - are a strong start!
